Steering shaft replacement info

Swapping to a modern steering box requires changing your steering shaft. All applications can use Borgeson 000970 which includes two U joints and an expandable shaft. The shaft will be cut to size.
Most 4wd and later 2wd columns seem to have a removable u joint and this makes using the new Borgeson parts a breeze. These applications don't need to do the below steps, the new U joint is a direct bolt on fit and you can ignore everything below.
Most earlier 2wd columns have a swaged on adapter that is pictured below. These require some more work and additional parts. It's going to be easier to remove the column than doing this in the truck.
You need to carefully cut off the swaged on flange adapter. Behind it will be splines, but they are not usable.

The two additional parts you need to source are:
Borgeson 409202 which is a solid male 3/4 36 spline shaft
Borgeson 313400 which is a female coupler, also 3/4 36 spline
The female coupler gets welded to your column shaft, then the male shaft goes into that coupler and you end up with a male connection point that the new U joints will be able to connect with
