This is a complete bolt in kit that uses a modern power booster and dual circuit master cylinder mounted to the firewall using the bolt holes for the factory air box. It includes a new brake pedal that swings from a higher location (looks like it could be original too). A modern GM booster and master cylinder give a significantly improved braking feel and power while adding safety through the dual circuit system.
This kit fits only the 1958 Oldsmobile. It fits all models of 1958 Oldsmobiles but no other years or makes of vehicles.
This can be used with factory drums, disc/ drum or disc/ disc. Let me know what brakes you have at check out and I will send the correct proportioning valve. It will have the pedal feel of a modern car- minimal effort required with a positive and firm feel. No more soft or sloppy pedal!Installation is fairly straightforward- minimal cutting of the firewall behind the air box (you can always put your original airbox back on and it would never show), use nut-serts (not provided) for all but the bottom 3 holes, and drilling of 3 lower screw holes to allow for heavier 5/16 bolts is required. This takes about 2-4 hours to install depending how well equipped. You have to remove the driver side air box, master cylinder, original bake pedal, cut out an area about 3" wide area to make room for the new pedal bracket, and then this kit bolts in.
Please know that some Oldsmobiles have a very large metal air ducting underneath the dash and this kit requires that you modify that air ducting for clearance. I have not personally installed this kit on such a car so I do not have pictures or exact instructions. One look under your dash should tell you- it is a particularly large metal air ducting piece betwene the firewall and dash.
Brake booster options:
-9" single diaphragm vacuum booster in gold zinc. This is the best optoin for drum/drum brakes. Anything more will feel too powerful. This is what's pictured here on the website.
-9" single diaphragm booster, in chrome, otherwise same as above option
-11" single diaphragm booster in varying finish of gold zinc or black powdercoat. This is the best option for disc/disc or disc/drum. This booster is considreably more powerful than the 9" booster. Our supply of the finish is inconsistent so we provide which finish is available.
-Hydroboost. This booster uses power steering fluid rather than vacuum. It is our most powerful booster, and over kill for most applications. The booster housing is longer so it may cause minor interference issues. This is best for high horsepower applications without a good vacuum source and with front disc brakes.
Proportioning valve optoins:-PV4 works for drum/drum or disc/disc. It proportions the brake fluid pressure eqully front and rear.
-PV2 works for disc/drum. it proportions the brake fluid pressure with a front bias.
All metal parts are CAD designed, laser cut, formed on a computer controlled press brake, professionally welded, and powdercoated satin black for consistent high quality results.
